England pay penalty for their loss against Italy, exits Euro 2012
Once again, England lost in a major championship via penalties. Their latest loss to Italy has resulted in their exit from the European Championships. Italy has progressed into the semi-finals of the competition, and now they face mighty Germany who are in great form.

HOW MANY times have we seen the English team being ousted from a major championship via penalties? It is for the sixth time that England has been knocked out after the game had to be decided on penalties in a competition of such stature, reported BBC. The result was the same yesterday night at Kiev, where the English team lost to Italy in the quarter-finals of the competition. They lost 4-2 in the penalties, after a scoreless 90 minutes and 30 minutes of extra time too. The winner, Italy, will face Germany in the semi-finals of the championship.

It was indeed a huge heart break for the English players and the fans, who had huge expectations from their team. They had been consistent in the run upto the quarter-finals. But, when it came to penalties, they failed to impress. Hence, it is not a big surprise when people are referring to them as chokers, for their failure to win during penalty kicks.

Earlier, it was also said that the English team had been practising their penalty kicks during the training session, as they were eager to reach the semi-finals of the competition. But, it is different thing all together to score during training session and scoring in a competitive match with stadium full of supporters. This time around, it was Ashley Cole and Young who were the culprits, after they failed to convert their penalties.

The scenes after the penalty shoot out had contrasting scenes, as expected. The Italians were seen rejoicing after the triumph, whereas English players were very sad after their exit. But, this was expected , as one of the teams had to be kicked out of the Championship and unfortunately for the English fans and the players they were once again knocked out of the competition after penalty kicks.

England has been knocked out of the competition and their dream of winning their first European Championship still remains a dream. They had a good chance during in the 2012 edition, as they had players, who were in good form along with a squad with rich blend of youth and experience. At the end of the day, Italy needs to be given credit for their performance during the game, where they had better ball possession and shots on goal than England.
