With this defeat, India may be out of the world cup. England’s men’s hockey team qualified for their first World Cup semi final in 24 years and extended their best ever start to a World Cup tournament as they beat hosts India in Delhi.
Goals from Surbiton’s James Tindall, Ashley Jackson and Nick Catlin were enough to put England into the semi finals with one pool match still to play.
England's fourth consecutive win came courtesy of goals from James Tindall, Ashley Jackson and Nick Catlin, which saw Jason Lee's side take a 3-0 lead shortly after the break.
In front of the Indian crowd England held their nerve after Gurwinder Chandi and Rajpal Singh reduced the deficit. By defeating the Indians, England have reached the last four for the first time in 24 years.
India also played 3 matched but only won 1 match from Pakistan. Now with the defeat at the hand of England as well, India has nothing else to prove except that it needs training, skills and perhaps better infrastructure and avenues to stand on the international grounds.
World Cup Hockey 2010 saw India win its first match against Pakistan by 4-1, but it lost two consecutive matches against Australia and Spain by 5-2 each. Now it has lost from England as well.
It defeated Australia by 3-2 in the first match, South Africa by 6-4 and and the last won against Pakistan by 5-2. With this win, England moves to the last 4 lag in the Hockey World Cup 2010. India, while may be out on its way.
