English and Wales cricket board to set up an anti- corruption unit
English and Wales cricket board have decided to set up an anti-corruption unit that would help in checking issues of corruption in cricket. Jane Stichbury, a police officer, is set to be appointed..
JANE STICHBURY, a senior level police officer has been appointed at the helm of an anti-corruption unit that has been set up by Wales and English cricket board.

The cricketing fraternity was shocked last year when the News of the World reported about the match fixing allegations involving Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, who deliberately bowled no balls during the Test match against England. M. Amir, M. Asif, and Salman Butt, who was the skipper during the match, has been banned for 5, 7 and 10 years respectively. It is this instance, which has led the cricket board of Wales and England to set up an anti-corruption unit.

The unit is supposed to comprise of former well-known players, some experts who have good knowledge about sports, and law, and a few police officers too.

The unit would primarily be concerned with domestic tournaments to check upon any kind of corruption that is involved during the game via match fixing. It would be strict with its laws so as to curb match fixing in various tournaments. “The unit will liaise with the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption unit and the ECB’s disciplinary commission,” reported guardian.co.uk.

The English cricket board is looking into the corruption issues as a matter of great importance for positive development of the game. They arranged a camp at Loughborough for young players, where anti-corruption issues were greatly discussed and they even plan to host some more such camps for the youth, said the spokesperson of the English Cricket Board.
