English Premier League: Chelsea defeat title favourites Manchester City
Branislav Ivanovic's first half strike was enough for Chelsea to defeat EPL title favourites, Manchester City, 1-0. This victory helped Chelsea equal Manchester City's 53 points on the standings table, where City is still above Chelsea due to goal difference. Both the clubs are just two points behind Arsenal, who stays atop with 55 points.

The Chelsea players put up a good game and a certain amount of credit must go to blues' manager, Jose Mourinho as well, especially his tactics. In spite of some good performances by Oscar, the Brazilian was benched for the game, which seemed to be another tactic of Mourinho. In absence of Oscar and Obi Mikel, two midfield players Matic and David Luiz grabbed the opportunities with a good performance. Apart from Matic and Luiz, each and every Chelsea player were giving it their best. They really worked hard to earn three points.

The centre-half pairing of John Terry and Gary Cahill looked strong in both the air as well as ground, as they did not give enough chances for Man City offensive players the chance to score. But, with Aguero missing from the team and Negredo not cent per cent fit, they looked the second best side going front. Yaya Toure and David Silva, in spite of a decent game, were still not enough to search for that elusive goal, which would have helped them come up with a point at least.

The scoreline could have looked embarrassing for Man City, had the ball not struck the woodwork on three occasions. The unlucky players being Samuel Eto’o, Matic and Gary Cahill.
