The symptoms of epilepsy can vary from individual to individual. It may start with some small or violent symptoms. It all depends on the type of seizures and the part of the brain, which has been affected. Usually the seizures are similar to the previous ones and the people will feel some strange sensation before its occurrence, like the emotional change, tingling, smelling an odour etc.
The symptoms of epilepsy mainly depend on the types of seizures, and the different types of seizures are generalized seizures, partial or focal seizures and absence seizures. In generalized seizures all areas of the brain are involved and the person suffering from these kinds of seizures makes some sounds or may cry out, the person may have breathing problem and the loss of urine is something, which is very common. In the partial or focal seizures only some part of the brain is involved and the symptoms will depend on the affected part. Lastly, in the absence seizures, which are most common during childhood, the patient may show repetitive blinking which lasts for some seconds.
The treatment of epilepsy depends on the seizure types. The doctor usually prescribes some medications, which usually include anticonvulsants. The type of anticonvulsant prescribed will depend on factors such as seizure type, other medical conditions and the cost. The medication for epilepsy requires frequent adjustments.
