EPL Preview: Manchester United Vs Liverpool
Manchester United is placed second in the EPL table, but they need to win their match against Liverpool later today to go to the top of the table. A victory for Liverpool will help them to inch them closer a the Champions League spot.
MANCHESTER UNITED and Liverpool are all set for a clash for the all-important clash in the EPL later today at Old Trafford in the UK. Matches between the two are considered to be one the biggest rivalries in English Football. With Manchester United just two points behind Manchester City in the EPL standings, a win for United will put them in the top spot for a day at least, depending on City’s result on Sunday. But a loss here would dent their hopes of retaining the EPL crown. Liverpool’s victory will help them move closer to a Champions League spot, which has been their major objective this season.
Going into the match, Liverpool should consider themselves lucky as Kenny Dalglish can choose his starting 11 from his entire squad, as it is only Lucas who would be unavailable for selection. On the other hand, Manchester United is not that lucky, as players such as Nani, Vidic, Owen, and Jones will in all probability miss the game due to injury. Still, the quality of the game will never be in jeopardy as both teams have class players in their line up to entertain millions of viewers around the world.
It could be a fiery game as no player likes to give an inch to their opponents when these two teams play. Liverpool would be buoyed by the return of Luis Suarez, who is expected to start today’s fixture. He came as a substitute during their previous premier league game against Tottenham. He could be the player to watch out for in the game. Liverpool has been in good form with wins against both the Manchester Clubs in various other competitions and a drawn match against Tottenham. So big teams have not managed to defeat Liverpool. For some reason Liverpool has some extra gas in their tank, when they play top sides of the EPL. Liverpool fans would be keeping their fingers crossed, expecting to continue their purple patch. Players such as Gerrard, Kuyt, Carroll, Adam and Suarez would be the most influential players for Liverpool during the game.
Manchester United must be taking this game as a revenge match, as Liverpool knocked them out of the FA Cup recently. It is a different ball game in the EPL, where United have a better record during the season, as they have scored an impressive 59 goals in the season so far, as per espnstar.com. Their attacking combination of Rooney, Young and Hernandez has been a constant threat to other teams in the EPL. Liverpool’s defence needs to stay alert as they are very good in capitalising defensive lapses, if any. Alex Ferguson knows the importance of the match in the context of the season. It might be a do or die situation; hence he would leave no stone unturned while picking his starting 11.
It is going to be a cracker of a game for fans, who remain neutral and enjoy the beautiful game. But it is a war-like scenario for Manchester and Liverpool fans who wants their team to trash the other. Who would have the final laugh, when the final whistle blows? A few hours from now, would reveal it all.
