CORNING DEMOCRAT, Representative Eric Massa, who was the news for a long time, during his one term in office, will not be seeking a second term. Eric Massa is expected to announce his retirement through a press conference styled conference call at 3:30 PM on Wednesday.

Eric Massa who is one of the few Democrats who won in the largely republican south, could rock the boat for Democrats in the south, because his sudden retirement. When Eric Massa was elected in 2006, he beat then incumbant Representative Randy Kuhl in a close race. The 2008 elections also saw him beat te same competitior.

Eric Massa, however, turned into a burden for the democrats, when he started rejecting his own party's stands and legislations on issues like health care reform, climate change, among others.

With this surprise retirement, the Republican nominee would become the overwhelming favorite. Corning Mayor Tom Reed, who was running against him, may reap many benefits now that the strong competition against him has gone.
