Escaped leopards from Gopalpur zoo are back in their enclosures
Three leopards, which escaped out of their enclosures in Gopalpur Zoo, near Palampur in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, during the intervening night on 14th & 15th March have been successfully captured and put back in their enclosures.

It was an act of sabotage by some miscreants, as the fence of the enclosures was found cut at two places by the zoo staff yesterday morning. Later, three leopards were found missing from their enclosures.

Immediately, a thorough hunt was carried out by the zoo staff in the nearby areas. One leopard (female) was found near the enclosure and was successfully recaptured. During the search operation, it was suspected that two leopards were present in a nallah about 50 meters from the zoo boundary.

A feed trail of goat meat pieces was laid from nallah to their enclosure to lure them back. This strategy worked and one of the female leopards walked back towards the enclosure at around 12.30 AM, which was tranquilized and locked back safely.

Third leopard (male) was also traced in that very nallah today morning and was successfully tranquilized in the nallah itself and brought back to its enclosure.

FIR has been lodged for the sabotage act in the zoo and the matter is also being enquired by the forest officials.
