Eunuchs resort to violence while seeking alms in trains

The medical definition of Eunuch is a man or boy deprived of the testes or external genitals. The Hindi word is hijra who are now a common sight in many of the passenger trains asking for alms from passengers.

IN ONE instance, a group of them, coming one after another, were asking alms, mainly focussing on youths travelling in a train, and were going in a nasty way while seeking alms. They were also seen slapping some of the youths viciously.

In a short span of travelling time, these class of people managed to raise huge money for themselves. At times, they would not accept Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 given by some passengers and would insist on Rs. 50/- or more.

Railway police should be entrusted with the task of ensuring that any alm seeker from passengers travelling in trains should behave normally and should not resort to any violent mode. Once a while, on a regular basis, the Railways Police team should meet the travelling community of eunuchs to impress upon them that they do not create any problems for passengers while seeking financial help. Such an exercise will help in detering these class of people to behave more appropriately accepted to all.
