Bhubaneswar Special Vigilance Court Judge S K Mohanty found former Women and Child Development Minister Dr Kamala Das guilty of misutilising her position to favour a private firm and has sentenced her to two years rigorous imprisonment.
FORMER ORISSA Women and Child Development Minister Dr Kamala Das on Saturday (July 24) was sentenced for two years rigorous imprisonment for misutilising her position to favour a private firm.
Besides, she was also awarded a penalty of Rs 2,000 non-payment of which will attract one more month’s imprisonment.
Bhubaneswar Special Vigilance Court Judge S K Mohanty found Dr Das guilty in showing ‘undue favour ‘to one Prince International Private Limited to get the work contract for supplying iodised salt to Anganwadi centres across the state.
The court also sentenced managing director of Prince International Private Limited, Raj Kumar Routray to serve two year rigorous jail term.
Reacting to the judgment, the former Minister Dr Das said she would go to the high court challenging the vigilance court sentence.
The vigilance court has granted bail and allowed her to appeal against the judgment by August 33.
In July, 2001, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dropped Dr Das from his Council of Minister on corruption charges.
