2. Coming from a non-political middle class background, how did politics happen to you?
Answer: During my college days, I entered student activism and have stayed involved with student welfare activities since 2010. However the entry into the mainstream politics happened when I decided to contest the NSUI elections in 2012. That is how it all started. From there it’s been a fulfilling journey so far.
3. How did the television ad come by?
Answer: They were looking for volunteers who would like to come forward and speak their mind. I voluntarily participated in the television ad campaign like many others whom you will see in the days to come. Making us a part of the Advertisement was also a way of giving us young party workers appreciation and recognition for our work by the All India Congress Committee.
4. Did you not apprehend that you may become a target for the opposition before taking up the ad?
Answer: Honestly speaking, I did expect people with ideological differences to troll and disagree with my opinion. However, knowing that I have a clean image I didn’t expect that people would stoop so low that they would invent false, fabricated stories just to malign and defame me.
5. How are you dealing with the social media campaign against you? Does it affect your personal life? Have you requested the party to take the Ad off air?
Answer: It would be a lie to say that this hate campaign is not affecting me. Honestly, at certain points it gets really disturbing and disheartening, especially when I see my parents getting affected.
But I am also very overwhelmed by the kind of support I have received from across the country. Whether it is in the form of my family’s wise words, calls, sms’, NSUI’s official release, Ajay Makenji’s tweet or that fact that Rahul Gandhi himself called, it shows that good people definitely outnumber bad ones.
Those spreading lies abt Hasiba Amin,a 23 yr NSUI girl, represent rotten&moribund political culture, which has no place in Indian politics.— Ajay Maken (@ajaymaken) February 1, 2014
6. The social media campaign talk about you involving with a legal case in past? Will you like to clarify?
Answer: Yes. I wish to clarify that I have never been involved in any scam; I have absolutely no FIR filed against me, no civil or criminal charges and I can proudly say I have a completely clean record. It is sad that the opposition is going to such a low to defame and malign the name and image of a girl. We speak of women empowerment, of young educated girls entering the system and yet we go on a spree of malicious personal attack when we find one. This kind of behavior is an insult to the youth and women of our country and it only disheartens them from coming forward.
7. What are your predictions on the upcoming elections? You believe INC still has its chances strong?
Answer: Youngsters like me demand transparency and accountability from the system. That is something which only the Congress party gives especially after Mr. Rahul Gandhi has introduced the entire transformation process in the party. How much ever the others may make tall claims about what they will do for the youth, it is only the Congress which is actually doing it. INC definitely has a strong chance.
