Explosives found near Manipur Governor's office
In a major security lapse, suspected militants managed to plant explosives very close to the office of Manipur Governor. The militants left the explosives laden car in the parking lot of the Raj Bhavan, putting a question mark over security.

ON THE eve of Durga Puja, the Manipur had a major security scare after a car laden with explosives was found parked inside the Raj Bhavan. Shockingly, the car loaded with 25-kg explosives was found just 100 feet away from the Governor’s office. It was due to the timely detection by the Manipur Police bomb disposal squad that a major blast could be averted on time.

As per reports, on September 18 some unidentified men entered the Raj Bhavan complex around 11 am on the pretext of meeting the Governor for submitting a paper relating to a club which they represented.

It was revealed that the suspects got the pass to enter the Bhavan in the name of one Kh. Koireng from Wankhei. It is also supposed that they parked the car at the parking space and then left the place in a different vehicle. However, it was only after the arrival of the top police officials that the suspicion of explosives was confirmed.

As soon as the information about the presence of bomb reached police, the Manipur Police bomb disposal squad entered the scene and defused the explosives. The squad detected three HE grenades, iron nails, bolts and two mobile phone handsets from the Maruti car.

A case has been registered at City Police station and the investigation into it has already been started. L Kailun, Imphal West, SSP said that the owner of the car in which explosives have been found could not be detected. However, three suspects related to the car are in the custody of police and are being questioned.

It is also learnt that the registration number of the car is a forged one. The SSP further added that the explosives fitted in the car with a plan to trigger them using mobile phones were of sophisticated quality.

As a precautionary measure, Governor’s daily schedule was cancelled, which included visiting the neighbour state Nagaland. Besides, this conspiracy to attack the Raj Bhawan is not first of its kind, last year on December 21, a bomb attack was carried out by KCP, a militant group.

With regular attacks on top government functionaries being planned, questions are now being raised over the effectiveness of security and intelligence measures. If this is the security situation of the VIPs, then one can easily imagine the security and safety of a common man in this part of the country.
