Within 24 hours of publication of the feature 'Extremists striving to rejuvenate', the banned ultras in Tripura made a come back and ambushed the Tripura State Rifles jawans, injuring one rifleman.
TO MARK their return, the extremists of banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (BM) today attacked a patrol party of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) in Dhalai district. In a short exchange of fire, one rifleman of TSR got injured and was admitted to the hospital.
According to state police sources, a heavily armed group of 4 to 5 cadres of NLFT (BM) ambushed the TSR jawans at Kukiroajapara under Manu police station jurisdiction, in Dhalai district at around 10.45 am.
The jawans, assigned to an operation, were passing through the area and were15 in number. Immediately after the sudden attack, they retaliated. After 15-20 minutes of exchange of fire, the ultras were compelled to flee. During the firing, Ashish Ghosh, rifleman, sustained a bullet injury and was taken to GB Hospital. As the last reports came in, a big team of security personnel led by OC, Manu PS Puspadhan Debbarma and Asstt. Commandant of TSR Samarendra Debbarma, carried out a combing operation to nab the culprits.
There were reports from different sources for last few days that extremists were trying to rejuvenate. They launched a recruitment drive in Kanchanpur sub division and some parts of Dhalai district. They want to regain the strength they lost due to massive operations conducted by the security agencies conducted in the last few years. Chief Minister Mr. Manik Sarkar also alerted people, mainly tribal, of the movements of the outlawed outfits.
