Facebook and Twitter more tempting than sex to young Indians
Has India finally found a solution to control its burgeoning population? A poll conducted by University of Chicago Booth School of Business, which has found that Facebook and Twitter are more alluring than sex to many young Indians, at least suggests so.

THE NEW age Indians are immersing themselves in Internet age lifestyles to the extent that checking Facebook and Twitter appeals them more than sex.

A week-long poll conducted in Germany by University of Chicago Booth School of Business revealed the secret of young Indians - checking social network, tweets, comments on Facebook and other posts as stronger than sex and stronger than sex and cigarettes in terms of tempation, Hindustan Times reported.

“Tweets and comments on Facebook make me at high and I do not feel doing anything at the end of the day. It is just new addiction for our generation besides smoking, drinking etc. Earlier, I used to sleep 8 hours a day but entry of new activity on Facebook keeps me awake for half of the night,” said Manya Kinjhar, student of Economics, Nagaland University

“When people are posting more sexy and spicy things on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube then who cares about sex with partner. This generation is more smarter than others; they not only know much better about sexual characteristics, they are also ready to talk about it frankly,” said Nitin Jhoba, another student from Nagaland University.

Participants of the poll, aged 18-85, were asked to track desires for sex, alcohol, cogarettes, besides others. They used smartphones to regularly update researchers regarding their cravings to check in with online communities.

Interestingly, study found that yearning for Facebook, Twitter or other social activities ranked among the hardest desires and were adjudged as fierce addiction for most of young Indians. The study shows these people are able to hold back urges for sex, shopping sprees, or other temptations when it came to using Twitter.

Wilhelm Hofmann, the study's lead author, told the Los Angeles Times: “Desires for media may be comparatively harder to resist because of their high availability and also because it feels like it does not cost much to engage in these activities, even though one wants to resist."

“After this, what will be most sought activities for Young Indian on social media? Probably online marriage, sex and live-in-relationship which is catching new trend like western in India,” Jhoba added.
