“This application changed the course of my life, now it’s your turn to choose your destiny”, says Rini Rajan, from Kerala, she is one of the hundreds of girls, who have benefited from the Fair & Lovely Foundation Scholarship.

Having lost her father at the age of 4, pursuing computer science seemed like a distant dream to her but the scholarship opened new doors for higher education. An initiative by Fair & Lovely, the leading fairness cream brand of Hindustan Unilever Limited, the Foundation commenced its program in 2003. Since then, it has been transforming the lives of more than 700 girls through the Scholarship programme. In its eighth year the Fair & Lovely Foundation welcomes applicants across India for the

Fair & Lovely Scholarships 2010 to pursue graduation, post graduation and Phd studies.
The Fair & Lovely Foundation has played a role in the success of over 700 plus young girls through the financial assistance it extends to them. Crediting the scholarship for her success Mobashera Rasool, winner of the Fair & Lovely Scholarship programme 2009 says, “Being a Computer Science engineer is something I always aspired for. Despite of my modest background, I have always been determined to achieve my goals. I financed my education till standard 12 by giving tuitions to school children.

As the eldest daughter with five siblings, there was very little I could expect from father who was a shoe maker. Even by giving tuitions I would have never been able to fund my engineering degree. But, now I can see my dream being fulfilled through the Fair and Lovely Foundation. I am confident that I will not only succeed academically but also share my father’s responsibilities!”

For Sameena Banu Mohammed, an Electronics and Computer Engineering student, who aspires to become a teacher, the scholarship is a means to inspire millions of girls like her in the future. She says, “Life has not been easy for me. In my community it is not very important to educate the girl child but I have held on to my goals. The scholarship has given a boost to my self-confidence. I was looking for a way to fund my education, when I read the news about the scholarship in the newspaper; I applied hoping that it could make a difference. Now nothing can stop me from soaring high academically.”

Like them the scholarship program has brought a ray of hope in the lives of many young aspiring girls, who have the aptitude and zeal to excel in life, but do not have the financial means to do so. The Foundation has been striving hard to shape their careers by awarding them with scholarships up to Rs one lakh to pursue higher education. The aid is given to promising young girls, who have the commitment and determination to make a difference in their lives.
