An RTI response reluctantly provided during hearing at Central Information Commission by North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) reveals that names of area-representatives in Lok Sabha and legislative assembly were deleted by the city Mayor from being printed on invitation cards and inauguration stone for inauguration ceremony of car-parking at Subhash Maidan, Delhi on 15 February 2011.
IT IS significant because both the representatives whose names were deleted were from the party in opposition to the party in power in the civic body having constructed the car-parking. It is against protocol and norms to make inauguration a single-party affair.
Enquiry should be made if area representatives to Lok Sabha and state-assembly declined to attend the fake inauguration because the parking has not been operational even now after one year of the hurried inauguration made just before notification was issued for civic-body elections in Delhi.
It is indeed improper that such fake inaugurations are done for political gains in elections. On the contrary, several important public utility projects built at huge costs to public exchequer are not used for long time because of political rulers not getting time to inaugurate the complete projects.
A central Act should be legislated whereby staff engaged in building such new public-projects rather than political rulers may inaugurate such projects. There should also be a complete ban on projecting individuals in all types of advertisements including display (hoardings etc), electronic and print media.
