EVER SINCE actor Kamal Hassan converted and organized his large number of fans into a welfare association, his birthday becomes an occasion to contribute to society by undertaking volunteer activities in different areas of Chennai and Tamil Nadu, and other states. The All India Kamal Hassan Welfare association is carrying out welfare measures such as serving food to HIV children; organizing blood donation camps; and organ donation.

The versatile actor, who is working on ‘Viswaroopam’ in a challenging character role, started acting in films when was just five years, and his involvement in the film industry is for more than 50 years.  The actor holds the record of an actor with the maximum films sent by India for Oscar awards in the category of Best Foreign Language Film. Some of his finest work can be seen in Dashavataram, Chachi 420 and Indian.

Hassan has two daughters from his first wife Sarika – Shruti and Akshara Hassan, and is presently married to southern actress Gouthami. He was awarded with the Padma Shri in 1990, and received an honorary doctorate from Sathyabama University.
