FORMER JAMMU and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdhullah on Tuesday (November 3), slammed the Indian army cricket team popularly known as Services for refusing to play a Ranji trophy match in Srinagar ostensibly over security concerns.
A furious Abdullah, who is also the chief of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) carried out a no hold barred attack on the Services, accusing them of projecting a bad image of Kashmir. The former J&K chief minister said that wrong signals will go to the people by the manner, in which the Indian army team refused to play in Kashmir Valley.
Asserting that he will take up the no-show of Services with Prime Minister, Abdullah lamented that this incident will send wrong message about Kashmir valley to the people around the world.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India immediately took note of the dereliction by Services team and has banned it from this year's Ranji trophy tournament. As per the BCCI decision, Services will not be allowed to participate further in the Ranji trophy this year.
Rubbishing the Services decision to forgo the match on account of security situation, Abdhullah said that the state had recently hosted a major golf event, and everything went without a hitch. He said that there were certain vested interests, who want to project Kashmir as disturbed place.
JKCA officials, meanwhile, said that they were not aware of the Services team's decision to boycott the match.
