Fate of candidates sealed in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry
The voters turnout was the highest in the states of Kerala, Tamilnadu and Puducherry. This enormous response to the assembly polls reiterates the faith of the people in the democratic process, indicating that Indian democracy is alive and kicking.
IT WAS perhaps one of the highest turn-outs of voters in assembly polls in the southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Union Territory of Puducherry - where elections were held on Wednesday to elect the next state government.

Though the polls went off peacefully, there were strong allegations of cash and liquor being distributed to voters by the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu, and this kept the newsmen busy through the day.

The average voting recorded this time was around 78 per cent and it proves that the people of this nation still have faith in democracy and in our election system and hence they came out in large numbers to exercise their constitutional right on Wednesday.

Tamil Nadu recorded around 75.21 per cent of voting while Kerala got some 74 per cent. The Union Territory of Puducherry recorded the highest turnout with a record 85.21 per cent of voting being done there.

As per Election Commission reports that were coming out in the media, they have recovered some Rs. 54.17 crore in cash in Tamil Nadu that was supposed to be used for luring the electorate.

The electorate has sealed the fate of all major political leaders of the south including Kerala chief minister V S Achuthanandan, DMK leader and Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK leader Dr. J Jayalalitha.

Now, all eyes will be on the results that would be declared on May 13 as to who will be going to make the next government in these respective states.
