WE ARE the citizens of the nation! We all have voices! All we need is to stand up and make the right noise!
Ghaziabad March 16, 2010, a teenage girl gets raped by her uncle; the village panchayat punishes the guilty by ordering him to be hit 5 times with shoes. The police turn up later, not to arrest the culprit but to arrest the people who ordered the hitting. Now what do we say about it? A girl’s entire life gets marred and the man is still respected!!
Apart from the physical, mental, and psychological repercussions, she will never be accepted by society ever again. No one is decent enough or brave to stand up for her and accept her, no matter how good she is at heart or in deeds. Her own family will almost kill her with their sharp comments and remarks. She would be considered a blot on her family. The Mahila Mukti Samaj will have got another girl to rip off and make money, apart from name and fame. But none will be truly empathize and support her when she will need it the most. And that culprit would be still respected and set free despite having committed such a grave crime. Such is the fate of the women of our independent and democratic country. High time to question- Did we fight for years together to achieve this kind of Independence? Is this what was dreamt of by our constitution makers? The questions are endless and the answers are nowhere in sight!
.Probably u didnt realise dat i picked up the story only to bring into light other issues...... d issue of survival of the girl after d incident....even if the man in question gets punished ... that is exactly what girls undergo throughout their life..........and dis i concluded after my interaction with several such girls....while researching for my upcoming documentary on dem..
.Do you know that the alleged rape has not been confirmed in the medical-examination of the vicitm? Do you know that FIR has been lodged against the culprits and they are on the run. Do you know that three of the culprits have been arrested? Your report on the incident is deviod of facts and it misses the important version of the police officials.
