FBI raids Trump's personal lawyer's office
Michael Cohen, the long-time personal lawyer of President Trump, is under federal investigation for possible bank fraud, wire fraud and campaign finance violations.

Investigators took Cohen's computer, phone and personal financial records, including tax returns. Cohen had left the Trump Organization in January 2017, around the time of Trump's inauguration, and since then has served as a personal attorney to the president.

Agents seized files relating to Cohen's work, which included making a $130,000 payment before the 2016 election to an adult film actress who says she had a tryst with Trump.

The raid came as Mueller's probe intensifies its focus on Trump's inner circle. Mueller's team is examining possible collusion between Trump's campaign and Moscow, allegations of corrupt behaviour by Trump campaign lieutenants, and of White House efforts to obstruct the investigation. Cohen's work for Trump has been a topic of particular interest in recent months to Mueller's investigators.

It is not clear how the FBI entered Cohen's office, but agents had a search warrant and typically would have presented it to office personnel to be let in. The documents identified in the warrant date back years.

The search does not appear to be directly related to Mueller's investigation, but most likely resulted from information that he had uncovered and gave to prosecutors in New York.
