Federer prepares for his 1000th match, will play Del Potro
Roger Federer, one of the best players ever to have played the game of tennis, will play his 1000th game tomorrow, as he faces Del Potro in the quarter finals of the Australian Open 2012.

ROGER FEDERER has seen it all, done it all, with greats of the game such as Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, etc. Hence, he is one of the best the game has ever seen. It would be a historic day tomorrow, when he plays his 1000th match against Del Potro in the quarter finals of the Australian Open 2012. AFP reported, Del Potro won his match against Philipp Kohlschreiber, where the score read 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1 to set up a clash with Federer.

It could be the biggest test for Federer, who has had a smooth ride in the competition so far. Del Potro could be a major obstacle, who seems to be playing well enough to upset Federer, who is determined to lift aloft the Australian Open title, 2012. Fedex fans at the stadium would be rooting for Fedex, as he has always been a favourite player, wherever he plays.

Though Potro may just be 23 years of age, he has been well known in the circuit after he turned pro in 2005. He is currently ranked 11th in the world, compared to Federer’s ranking of number 3. It may be the age factor, which Potro would like to exploit, as the Swiss is 30 years old. Potro may make him run all around the court that is if Federer cannot hit winners past Potro, which he normally does.

Del Potro likes to serve big and win major points. He primarily plays from the baseline and has some powerful ground strokes down his sleeves. It is time for Potro to unleash his strokes and showcase his skills. Many experts claim his forehand to be one of the best in the business and Federer has to watch out for it, else, it could be a long day for Federer.

On the other hand, Federer’s style of play has been admired the world over. He has a smooth game, which can destroy any player in a given day. He has all the shots in the book, one hand backhand, along with a strong forehand, accurate serve and volley, etc. He has mastered it all; hence he draws the crowd in great numbers. Along with his master strokes, he is very agile on the court, which makes it difficult for his opponents to win points. It would be great, if both the players come up with their best game and let the result takes care of itself.

Potro would not like to remember the 2009 Australian Open quarter-finals, where Federer made his life hell, as he ran riot in the match, where the score line read, 6-3, 6-0 and 6-0. Would we witness the same score line this time around?  If it happens, it would be an icing on the cake and the champagne bottles would be out post Federer’s 1000th game.
