Two female suicide bombers killed at least 5 people apart from injuring 23 others in two consecutive blasts, which was targeted at high ranking police officials in Peshawar on Thursday morning.
TWIN SUICIDE attacks rocked Peshawar on Thursday morning that left five people dead including a 12 year old boy and critically injured 23 others. The incident is reported to have taken place at the Lahori Gate area when two women suicide bombers detonated their explosives, which was targeted at the high ranking officials.
Early media reports from Pakistan said that the first blast took place adjoining a police security van within the limits of the Gulbahar police station in, which the casualties were reported. The bomb squad was quoted saying that in the first blast nearly 8 kilograms of explosives were used.
Following the first blast, within a span of few minutes, another woman suicide bomber detonated her explosives that left two people injured. However, the administration is not excluding the possibility of casualties and injuries going up.
So far no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack but it is anticipated that the attacks were carried out either by the Taliban or Al-Qaida as most of the militants are found hiding in the nearby Afghanistan-Pakistan border belt. Due to the abovementioned reasons, Peshawar is frequently under attack either from Taliban or the Al-Qaida.
The injured were transported to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital while security officials were seen cordoning off the entire area.
