FIFA World Cup 2018 final match prediction: Will France emerge victorious or underdog Croatia?
Well, the ups and downs that have taken place in the FIFA World Cup 2018 have been nothing less than phenomenal. I'm yet to come across an article which had predicted a final encounter between France and Croatia.

Even in the reviews of the semifinals, most of the writers, despite mentioning a possible fight being given by Croatia this season, had overall given their judgment in favour of England.

But then, in this edition of the tournament, the ouster of heavyweights like Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal had given a glimpse of a possible outcome in favour of underdogs. This, in fact, has made the FIFA World Cup 2018 even more spicy and immensely interesting.

I have no hesitation in admitting that most of the predictions did not prove to be right. But still, given the way France have left a strong mark in their journey so far especially keeping in view the rich experience of their squad, which has greatly enhanced after a beautiful victory over Belgium in the semifinal match, I see no reason for France losing to Croatia in the final match on Sunday.

Even the statistics are pointing out that France will prevail. Both the teams have faced each other in five head-to-head encounters since 1998 (the year France proudly lifted the World Cup trophy). While France emerged winners thrice, the other two matches were drawn. Thus, Croatia have never beaten France till date.

The details of their previous five head-to-head encounters are:

S.No          Date    Results & Score         Tournament Name
1  29 March 2011    Match Draw by 0-0    International Friendly
2  17 June 2004   Match Draw by 2-2  UEFA European Championship
3  28 May 2000  Franc win by 2-0  International Friendly
4  13 November 1999    France win by 3-0  International Friendly
   5   08 July 1998   France win by 2-1  Fifa World Cup 1998

Croatia are no doubt in very high spirits and will give a tough fight as they've got nothing to lose but everything to gain after having reached the final, the highest point they have reached in their World Cup history. This appears to be a chance of a lifetime for them. Also, keeping the ups and downs of FIFA World Cup 2018, the support of millions of football fans appears to be in favour of underdog Croatia.

However, with lots of excellent players of theirs playing in the top European leagues, France are no pushovers. Players like Pogba, Kante and Griezmann are superstars who are household names. If they perform according to their ability, there will be no stopping them.

France, who had managed to reach the final of Euro 2016, know how to play in big games. Although they had lost that final, they will want to make up for it this time. The standard and the experience of the French players is undoubtedly far higher. They have encountered Uruguay, Belgium, Argentina, and passed through the acid test successfully.

The diehard Croatian fans are going to throng the Russian capital Moscow on Sunday to give heartfelt support to their team. The betting trends also indicate towards France as hot favorites. Most of the sports writers have put their stakes on France as well. To me it appears that Paris is getting ready for gala celebrations. Class should always prevail!
