EVERYONE IN India and the film fraternity will say this in one breath that Amitabh Bachchan is the greatest actor of our times. Next week, the much talked about film of Hollywood, ‘The Great Gatsby’ starring Leonardo Di Caprio in the lead would go to floors. Amitabh Bachchan will join the Baz Luhrmann clan in the romantic drama as Meyer Wolfsheim. Australian beauty actress Isla Fisher will play the lead in the film. With this $125 million project Amitabh Bachchan wants to cast his spell on Hollywood audience. The film is the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name.
In the past there have been many actors who have done crossover films or Hollywood films with Bollywood actors. To name a few would be Anil Kapoor, Imran Khan and the others but strangely not Amitabh. Inspite of having Aishwarya as his daughter-in-law, who almost opened the door of Hollywood for Indian actors, he never made that leap. It might just be that he was so engrossed in his own career in India that he never explored the possibility.
After making a mark with his film and television he required quite a princely part in the Hollywood given his stature, which might be another reason for his absence from Hollywood. This time, Warner Brothers might have given him something that he couldn’t sidestep and refuse. The enormity and the grandeur of the part would be seen once the film is done. The film is being shot at Australia and Luhrmann is very happy with the location. Talking about it he says that the opportunity to make the film in Australia with the Bazmark creative team is very important to them. He also aknowledged the fact that the Screen Australia and the NSW Government has made it possible for them. The film will release in 2D and 3D format.
