First Afghan female rapper raps about atrocities on women

Her headscarf is the only piece of clothing that puts Afghani Soosan Feroz aside compared to many modern singers in today's world. She looks and sounds similar to many pop singers who want to make it big in the music industry but one needs to look closely.

NOT ONLY her headscarf but her rap lyrics, which talks of atrocities on women, too defines her as the first Afghan female rapper, brave enough to choose a career that can easily lead her to trouble.

In a report Soosan Feroz says, “We lived in Iran and Pakistan but mostly in Iran. In Iran we couldn't walk around or be even out when we needed. When my father and mother went to search jobs, the Iranians took us off the street because we were Afghan. We couldn't study, we couldn't go to school because we were Afghans.”

This 23-year-old Afghan lady in her unconventional way sings of a war torn country and about atrocities on women and how they have suffered in the hands of many. According to website chinadaily, Feroz says, “My raps are about the sufferings of women in my country, the pains of the war that we have endured and the atrocities of the war.

Feroz, recounts of many a tales through her songs, which a local company is helping her to record. Although she is proud of herself and what work she is doing, after the release of her song in the Internet her uncle and family has shunned her saying that the girl has bought shame on the family. Her immediate family, though, is still with her supporting her in her endeavor inspite of getting threats over the phone.

In a country, where freedom of expression is nil for women, more so for Afghan women, Soosan has undertaken a dangerous journey. Yet, she is not deterred and such courage as well as will of such women will bring in the new dawn for women in such countries.
