First look: Atari all set to return with its new gaming console 'Ataribox'
All those of us who grew up during the late 80s and early 90s would vaguely recall the brand name 'Atari'!

Well, for those unaware, Atari was the very first gaming console to make its way into the Indian electronics market in the late 1980s. It was for the very first time that Indian gamers got a first-hand experience of what console gaming was all about.

I still vividly remember playing Pac-Man on my Atari 2600 gaming console as a school-going kid. If Pac-Man was by far the most popular game of that era with 7 million copies distributed, Atari 2600 gaming console was no less a hit having sold 30 million units.

Although, Atari 2600, which was introduced in 1977 was discontinued in 1992, its legacy has still lived on.

However, there's great news for fans of Atari, as the game console maker has announced its return. The company recently revealed the first images of its new gaming console named Ataribox.

Keeping aesthetics and nostalgia in mind, Atari has retained the old basic design including the wood grain finish. However, as per a report of Mashable, the company has added an SD card slot, HDMI port, Ethernet jack and of course a power socket.

But what immediately catches the eye is the illuminated Atari logo in the new console.

Although details are yet to be released about the titles and the final release date, but as per reports both classic and new titles will be made available for the Ataribox.

Atari has its work cut out in wake of the tough competition it will face from market leaders – the Sony PlayStation and Microsoft Xbox. It might not be clear whether Atari will be able to sell more gaming-consoles than the competition, but it's sure to leave a mark owing to its rich legacy.
