DRINKER RETAILER First Quench, which has been in the news recently due to its financial troubles, has decided to cut down about 2140 jobs, as 391 stores would be shut. The brand which owns labels like Threshers, Bottoms Up and Victoria wine outlets had this to say, “ The joint administrators of First Quench Retailing... have announced the closure of a further 391 stores, resulting in 2,140 redundancies.” These job losses are expected to take place by December 20.

The company had announced that it would pull down the shutters on about 373 stores last month and had planned for a further 381 shops to be closed last week. The closure announced on Friday, November 27, includes all Haddows stores it had in Scotland.

First Quench began the downward spiral as recession hit Britain and was unable to shake the shadows of the losses completely. The tough competition via retail store chains like Asda, Tesco and rival off licenses, have turned the situation dire. Till now, the company has seen a total 6000 workers being laid off.
