Five days after Gurgaon Fashion Week disaster: Bank account of accused traced by police
It has been 5 days, since April 17, when the Gurgaon Fashion Week was cancelled. It has left a bad taste in the mouths of the fashionistas of the millennium city. What promised to be the trend setter for the city became a dud when designers came, show the shoddy organisation and realised that they have been cheated of their money by the organisers. An FIR has been lodged against Rohan Verma and others under sections 406 and 420 of IPC. Scheduled to take place on April 17, at the Galaxy Hotel, the show reached its sad end leaving everyone desolate.
When contacted, SHO of Civil Lines Police Station, Vishal Kumar said, ''Nothing concrete has yet come up in the matter as we are still investigating. Investigating Officer Dalbit Singh is looking into the case.''Delhi designer Sahil of the brand Neha and Sahil said, ''It was my event for which Alok Mittal (Commissioner of Police) was invited and hence I am looking into the matter very closely. We have tried the Canara Bank, where Rohan Verma has left a trace of his transactions and we have records about all the money deposited by various designers in his bank account and how he has withdrawn almost everything.''
He also talked about the absconding accused,Rohan Verma, and how they know what he looks like. Talking about it, he says, ''We have got his original address and have talked with Verma's uncle and aunt, who says that they have not been in touch with Verma for the last 7 years and he has not been to that place(which is Rohan Verma's passport registered address) for quite some time now.'' When asked about the accused, Sahil said, '' I don't want to talk about anyone's personal matter, but as far as we were able to understand Verma comes from a broken home- his mother has left him and his dad is married and has a separate family. Even, his own brother doesn't talk to him.''
The police as well as the designers are looking into the matter closely as possible and leaving no stone unturned to get to the bottom of it. Trying to make sense of why so many reputed designers would fall for a scam and not conduct a background check, Sahil said, '' We are primarily creative people and not businessman and when names such as Ritu Kumar and BMW crops up with a well drafted 7 pages contract, then there is little doubt in one's mind. Moreover, they had taken care of the minutest details such as a legitimate website, merchandiser's name, media coverage announcing Daler Mehendi performing on the launch and a press conference at the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon.''
