Five-petaled Starfish flower is deemed proud possession of gardening hobbyist
Five-petaled starfish flower blooms during the beginning of summer on cactus-like plants. In fact, starfish flower plants are not exactly cacti but are members of the succulent group of plants.

Flowers are red to brown and may be mottled or variegated with a couple of colours. For botanists, stapelia is the family name of the starfish flower plant.

However, it is an entrancing plant with flowers of striking shape and colour shades, Both, friends and family members take pride while watching flowers bloom in the months from April to May. 

The five petals of the flower are thickly skinned and resemble carrion flesh. Though the cactus-like plant produces amazing five-petaled flowers, yet many of them give out a rather unpleasant odour but do attract small insects.

The starfish plants are soft stemmed plants without sharp spines that spread out from a central point.

Starfish flowers look ornamental to have a wow-factor and become conversation piece for the on-lookers. 

These starfish flowers are easy to care for and thrive in a variety of light conditions. They will perform well in full to partial sun. Morning light is the best with some protection from harsh midday rays. It needs consistent moisture unlike its true cacti cousins.
