Water levels continued to rise in major rivers including Mahanadi, Vansidhara at Kashinagar, Nagavali and river Indravati following heavy rains in their catchment areas. Surplus water from various reservoirs in the state has been released.
THE REVENUE Minister Suryanarayan Patra has said that many more villages near Bhavanipatna (Kalahandi District) shifted to safe place due to the flood in river Hati. He also told a local TV channel on Sunday that all the District Collectors have been asked to remain alert as rainfall is likely to continue in different parts of the state for the next two days due to low pressure, which might lead to a flood-like situation. The officials from meteorological department also confirmed that rains are expected in another 24 hours.
A few days back, about 2,000 people were led to safety soo after the river Hati in Kalahandi district overflowed after heavy rains that had continued for three days. People have been moved to higher and safer regions from low-laying regions, and have been provided cooked food and water.
