Floods and rains kill 465 people in five states; most deaths recorded in Maharashtra
According to the current report of the National Emergency Response Centre (NERC) of the Home Ministry, 138 cases of death have been reported in Maharashtra, 125 in Kerala, 116 in West Bengal, 52 in Gujarat and another 34 in Assam.

According to the NERC report, 26 districts in Maharashtra, 22 in West Bengal, 21 in Assam, 14 in Kerala and 10 another districts of Gujarat are worst affected with unprecedented floods and heavy rain.

Consequently, in Assam, 10.17 lakh people have been suffering from floods and heavy rains. Of these, 2.17 lakh people have taken shelter in relief camps.  NDRF teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the states with each team consisting of 40-45 people. 

In Gujarat, 15912 people have been shifted to safer places. Here 11 teams of NDRF are engaged in relief and rescue work. 

In Kerala, the floods have affected 1.43 lakh people. Nine people have been reported missing due to floods and rains. Four teams of NDRF in Kerala and three teams in Maharashtra are helping the people.
