Foods rich in nitrate content are good for lowering high blood pressure
A simple and quick way to lower high blood pressure is to have fruits and vegetables that are rich in nitrate content, because nitrate is an essential plant nutrient, which helps in lowering high blood pressure.

NITRATE is basically a salt of nitric acid, which is naturally available in fruits, vegetables and grains. These foods can easily provide the required amount of nitrate to the body. This nitrate is converted to nitrite in the body. But, if this nitrite is further converted to nitrosamine, then it causes many negative affects but this further reaction is inhibited by Vitamin C.

Nitrites are easily absorbed by plants through roots, as it is found in soil as a primary source of nitrogen. Fruits and vegetables, especially the root vegetables, are rich in nitrates. The increase in the distance of fruit or vegetable from the root decreases the nitrate content in it. The fruits rich in nitrate are strawberries, gooseberries, currents and raspberries. And the vegetables with high amount of nitrates are lettuce, green beans, spinach, radishes, celery, beets, carrots, parsley, cabbage, and collard greens.

Nitrate present in the body is converted to nitrites by bacteria present on your tongue. This nitrate is converted to nitric oxide in your blood, this helps to relax the blood vessels. According to a study done by Functional Biochemistry in Health and Disease, suggests that when nitric oxide is high in blood vessels the blood pressure will be at its lowest. Another property of nitric oxide is preventing inappropriate blood clotting.
