Indian Super League (ISL) is the new proposed football league in India, by IMG-Reliance and All India Football Federation. The first season of this league is set to kick-off in September this year. It is expected to run along the lines of Indian Premier League (IPL) and football league of the United States.
The eight franchisees ISL were
announced on Sunday, and the stakeholders includes celebrities like
former Indian cricket captains Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly,
Bollywood heartthrobs Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor and John Abraham.
Tendulkar has bagged the franchise for Kochi in association with PVP
ventures. Ganguly will co-own the Kolkata team.
Bollywood star Ranbir kapoor who will
own the Mumbai Franchise in the inaugural Indian Super League says, "Football has never been far away from his daily life. It is a
moment of great pride for me to be a part of the Indian Super League
and to represent the vibrant city of Mumbai."
He added, "Football has never been far away from
my daily life, since childhood and now as a partner in the Indian
Super league. I am looking forward to translate my passion into
contributing to the growth of the sport," as reported by ANI.
