'Green Economy' is an emerging terminology which focuses on a methodology to achieve a sustainable future. It highlights the importance of renewable sources of enery and energy conservation.
THE WORLD around us is changing. The resources that defined the development of both, nations and society, are depleting significantly. The governments all over the globe are now waking up and becoming actively involved in reshaping and refocusing of policies and investments which concern both national and international interests.
The new model for economic development ie. The ‘Green Economy’ focuses to achieve a sustainable future for ourselves and the generations to come. The earlier approach to development and industrial upbringing focused highly on the non-renewable resources, ie. fossil fuels like coal, petroleum etc. involved inefficient practices. This era is now referred to as the ‘Black Economy’.The ‘Green economy’ involves practices which would now help to carry forward the legacies of development though prioritizing and safeguarding the interests of Mother Earth, or our environment. However, easier said than done, the implementation of the Green Economy concept in itself is a huge challenge as it involves a complete focus-shift from the practices followed from generations to generations.
The development of a Greener economy challenges the human mind and the creativity required for the efficient and effective usage of the renewable resources that are available to mankind, ie, the solar, wind, water energy, etc. The human resource hence plays a huge role in the development of our very own future. The issue of Global Warming thereby becomes a subset of the ‘Green Economy’ and increasingly focuses on aforestation and reforestation. The development of a green economy involves three major components, which are:
Economic
Environment
Social
The cognition of the three components leads us to the development of a sustainable business model which is both environment friendly and profitable. However to implement this model, the initial costs are really high, various governments and other bodies are providing subsidies to promote the cause. The research aspect which is still under the early phase, is far more costlier than running the green economy model itself. However, it is been looked up as an investment which would give us a better future. The green economy also interests us by providing a huge number of green jobs and employment for people to further ensure sustainable economic growth. The outcome of the green economy is to meet the vital issues in front of us like the environmental pollution, global warming, resource depletion, and environmental degradation. The issues that still remain to be settled after the development of such a system is the right implementation of the same, which would safeguard the interests of the society and the nations globally and not just the rich world. International bodies like the UNEP (United Nations Environment Program) are helping and guiding the various countries to implement such practices and form global standards and organizing events to promote the cause.Money and Power won’t always last for generations. Lets hope Life does.
