For Gavaskar, Dhoni is an automatic choice for captaincy

With MS Dhoni not looking in great form neither with his bat nor his leadership skills, there are many analysts who think that the player needs to be axed from the captaincy. But, Sunil Gavaskar does not think so and terms him an automatic choice for captaincy.

MS DHONI has been on the receiving end of critics for his lackluster performance in the last 12 months or so and some also want him to be axed as the captain and replaced by some younger leader.

But, not everyone thinks on the same lines, as Sunil Gavaskar, former Indian cricketer has come out in the open and stood by the captain stating that he is an automatic choice for his captaincy, in spite of not enjoying a good track record of late.

In this nnis video, he said, “It all depends on how good a particular player is, basically the Australian way of picking the best 11 and picking the captain is a very good one, because, none of the player has doubts about the person's capability.” In India, it is always the captain who is chosen first and then the rest of the team members are selected. It has been going on for many a years in Indian cricket history.

He further added, “At this particular moment, MS Dhoni is an automatic selection in all the three formats of the game, if he is an automatic selection, then he continues to be the captain. When he is not an automatic selection, then may be you would want to think about somebody else being the captain.” One must also realise that there are not many capable players who can lead the side; may be there are players in the ODI and the T20 format who can captain the side, but one sees no alternative as captain for the Indian Test side.

India has had some disastrous performances with embarrassing losses to Australia and England on away tours. With the Australian and the English teams scheduled to play a series each in India, it is revenge time for India. MS Dhoni needs to stamp his authority over these teams at home, if he is to be retained as the Indian skipper, else the selectors might be forced to look elsewhere as well.
