For God's sake, Sachin should retire

THE FIFTH one-day international (ODI) of the CB series between India and Srilanka ended in a dramatic tie. Team India's most sought and experienced player Sachin Tendulkar again failed to play a knock of any significance. In the ongoing CB Series, the image of the outstanding cricketer has taken a whipping with almost inevitable failure in one or another game. Is Sachin Tendulkar still relying on his 100th international dream century or does he just want to singularly pursue a number?

"I am Sachin’s admirer but for God’s sake I want he should retire. So many young players are playing better than he is. BCCI should give chance to others. It is not justified that to retain him in team, he is distracting the Indian team," said Akash Garg, a student of Manipal University.

"I want to see, he should leave the game respectfully and not depend on hit and miss of ODI matches. He has become greater than game and that is not doing anybody good," said Akurishi Jain, call center executive.

Andrew Lamba, student recalled Sachin’s game in last year World Cup. He said it is not worth watching his games and felt that Sachin selfishness has reached a new low.

Since his 99th hundred against South Africa at the World Cup in March 2011, Tendulkar’s bid for an exceptional 100th century has been the talking point. He has already played twenty-two test inning and seven ODI matches without a century despite twice entering the ninties. This unyielding hunt for the 100th international has spanned India’s most devasting defeats in England and Australia test series.

The time being taken by Tendulkar is too long a time - something that has gripped India and Indians. Has BCCI become so obsessed with the number 100? Is 99 centuries less achievement than 100 centuries? When he is holding four batting world records then what will 100th century give him? Definitely, there will be new record in his name, with more media hype along with money. This man always chooses when and where he plays, sometimes he chooses not to play even one single ODI, and this hurts the Indian team's equation on the filed.

How much is he contributing to India’s cause? Making himself available for the CB Series was all about his dream for 100th century, which is not helping India. When will he think to give the chance to youngesters? He should retire gracefully in sake of game and budding players.

"Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from cricket," - when will we hear the great news, concluded Mandira Randhawa smilingly.
