Ford Motor Co. is recalling 575,000 Windstar minivans because rear axles may fracture because of corrosion in the U.S. and Canada. Ford Motor recalled Windstar vans from model years 1998 to 2003.
FORD MOTOR Co. is recalling 575,000 Windstar minivans because they have faulty rear axles, which may fracture because of corrosion. The minivans are being recalled in US and Canada and models in question ranfe from 1998 to 2003. According to a Ford spokesman, around 463,000 Windstar minivas in US will be recalled, while rest will come from Canada.

The latest automobile recall is happening because a preliminary investigation was launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, after receiving more than 225 complaints, including two reports of accidents involving minivans. NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation into broken rear axles on Ford's Windstars in May.

The recall applies in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin and the whole of Canada, where road-salt corrosion is more common.

Ford Motor Co. based in Dearborn, Michigan, said in a statement that it plans to start notifying owners beginning September 27. According to the company, dealers will inspect Ford's Windstar and if a crack is found, dealers will install the rear axle reinforcement brackets free of charge. Company also said, it will provide alternate vehicles for customers until the rear axle of their vehicle has been replaced.
