Foreign players and trainers not required: Dhanraj Pillay
Dhanraj Pillay is utterly disappointed with India's performance in the recently concluded Olympics. He feels that the right team had not been selected as some of the best players were dropped from the team.

DHANRAJ PILLAY, one of the finest hockey players that India has ever produced, is a strong critic of the way Indian hockey is being run in our country. He is very upset with the performance of the Indian Hockey team in the recently concluded London Olympics, where the team finished last. It was one of the worst displays ever by India.

Pillay does not agree with the team's selection, which left out key players for the Olympics. He names some key players who were left out of the team, such as Arjun Halappa, Vikram Pillai, Rajpal Singh, Minj etc. In this nnis video he says, “All these players handled the forward and the defense line (for India).” How can we expect the Indian team to win an Olympic medal when such players are left out of the side? With the quality of teams in the competition, it was a given that India would not feature in the Olympics podium, but the way they finished the competition, in the last position, was not expected.

Many experts blame the Indian coach, Michael Nobbs for India's performance during the Olympics. Dhanraj Pillay, who has never been a strong supporter of a foreign coach still holds the same view and says, “Foreign coaches and trainers are not required.” There have been some top players in the game, who are capable of coaching Team India, but still they do not consider former Indian players, which is truly sad. Even if these foreign coaches were producing good results, it was understood, but they have not bee able to turn Indian fortunes. May be it is time for an Indian national to train team India and bring back those glory days.

In the video, he also adds that India will take another 5-6 years to defeat top teams such as Australia, Germany and Holland. These teams have been dominating world hockey for some time. Will we ever dominate world hockey like the way we did in the past?
