Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro dies; PM Modi says, "India mourns the loss of a great friend"
Fidel Castro, the former Cuban President died on Friday night at the age of 90. Cuban President and Fidel's brother, Raul Castro confirmed the news about the revolutionary leader's death.

Fidel Castro died at 10.29 pm last night, 8 years after he handed over power to his younger brother Raul Castro as he was not keeping well.

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the former Cuban leader.



PM Modi described Fidel Castro as one of the most iconic personalities of the 20th century. He also called him a great friend of India



Fidel survived a crippling US trade embargo as well as dozens, possibly hundreds, of assassination plots. Here's how other world leaders reacted to Fidel's death.

President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa said: "He was a big one. Fidel dead. Long live Cuba! Long Live Latin America!"



President of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, tweeted: "I lament the death of Fidel Castro Ruz, leader of the Cuban Revolution and the emblematic reference of the 20th century ... Fidel Castro was a friend of Mexico, a promoter of a bilateral relationship based in respect, dialogue, and solidarity."
