Adam Hollioake, former captain of England has become bankrupt as his company, Hollioake Group collapsed last year, which had around 40 creditors and owed them a sum of A$20 million.
ADAM HOLLIOAKE, former captain of England has gone bankrupt in Australia. He had a short career with England as he only represented England for 35 ODI’s and few test matches. He was also awarded the Wisden Cricketer of the year in the year, 2003.
The Australian born cricketer had a company, which was known as Hollioake Group. Unfortunately, the company did not do well, so it collapsed. It was a major setback for the company as there were more than 40 creditors to the company and the company owed these creditors a sum of around A$20 million.
It was a businessman by the name of Martin Ryman, who had initially helped the company financially, as he had given them £1.5m, but the company was in such a situation that they could not pay back his money. So he approached the court in Brisbane. Adam and his father were sued by the businessmen for more than $2.7 million. It was victory for the businessmen as the court decided to grant him his, 1.8 million pounds claim.
Neither Adam nor his father was present in the court to hear the verdict. According to reports that were published, no one knows about Adam’s father whereabouts. So, private investigations are on, to search for the missing person.
It may be for the first time that we have heard about a cricketer who has played at the international level going bankrupt. He had suffered a bigger setback earlier in his life too, as he lost his brother, Ben Hollioake, in a car crash in 2002. He also played international cricket for England.
