HY, WE are still around poverty ridden Bangladesh, Yemen and Bhutan in the Human Development index released by United Nations this year?

Although there is no scarcity of natural resources and talent in our country but, due to some egotistical politicians and officers, who have amassed wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income, the common man still struggles to earn bread and butter for the day. The stigma of corruption has once again brought to light how politicians are plundering public money. This time its the former chief minister of Jharkhand Madhu Koda, his kin and acquaintances who are hogging the lime light for all the shameful reasons.

Senior sleuths from the department of IT and the Enforcement Directorate carried out a raid on Saturday (October 31) and Sunday (November 1) at 70 places related to Koda and his acquaintances, including the capital city Ranchi, Mumbai, Lucknow, Nasik and Kolkata. During the raid, they seized incriminating documents depicting illegal investment, mega deals and tax eviction.

Koda was a minister of mines and cooperatives from February 2005 to September 2006 and became became the chief minister of the state in 2006. He held the office till, August 23, 2008.

According to a senior official associated with the raid, Koda had invested US$ 17 lakhs in purchase of mines in Liberia. He and his associates have also invested in mines, steel and power in many other countries including Thailand, UAE, Indonesia, India and Singapore.

His close associates, Sinha and Chaudhury had made an investment of Rs 200 crores, in diverse areas. His other associates are heading 14 companies in India and two in Dubai, with an interest in cement, steel, automobile and tourism. He also added documents seized are showing illegal transactions worth Rs 2000 crores.

The evidence clearly shows how an elected politician, who had promised to wipe out poverty from the state, plundered its coffer for his and his acquaintances interests. Few believe though, that he would be punished thoroughly. Instead, they expect him to use his political lineage and clout to save his skin and the files will soon bite the dust.

When the people of Jharkhand supported the movement to bifurcate the region from Bihar, they thought they will usher in the new era of development as Jharkhand is one of the states that has colossal natural resources. However, politicians have used their clout to plunder the natural wealth, leaving people to struggle for basic amenities like power, water, roads, education and dwelling.
