Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about WE point System on merinews
With the closure of the existing WE Program, Merinews has moved to a new point system 'WE point'. WE point is a Reward mechanism which aims at acknowledging and simultaneously rewarding the efforts of our Citizen Journalist(s)

Question 1: What is 'WE points'?

Answer 1:  WE points is an effort to recognize and empower our citizen journalists (CJ), it is a reward mechanism under which users will receive points for every key activities done on the site. These points will then decide the level of a user.

Question 2: How do I earn 'WE points'?

Answer 2: So far, we're focusing on these key areas of user activity on the site like (but not limited to) publishing articles, photos and maintaining an updated profile. In order to avoid misuse of the system we do not publish the entire list of activities we track for pointing system and we keep modifying the amount of points we allocate for each activity. We're highlighting these areas and recognizing the top users in them.

Question 3: Do I need to enroll separately for 'WE points'?

Answer 3:  No, you do not need to register separately for the WE points program.

Question 4: What are levels?

Answer 4: Levels are based on total points accumulated under your merinews account. Each Level is designated by a badge of different color. Higher the points, higher will be the Level. Merinews will plan future rewards and benefits based on the Levels

Question 5: Do WE points expire?

Answer 5: Yes. If you do not login to your account for over 3 months then your WE points will expire.

Question 6: Can others view my WE points?

Answer 6:Yes, they can. Points and Levels are not treated as private information on merinews, rather it’s an indicator of the citizen journalists' credibility and participation.

This article in the form of question and answer does not give us a clear idea about the point awarding to to CJs, Secondly, Level 1 is not understood. What are the other levels? Thirdly, an article writer gets 2 points and one can gain 1 point by writing a one line comment. What is the meaning of all these? How a comment of one line be compared so poorly with an article of 300 lines or less?
where should i see my submitted news??
With all due respect to Team Merinews, the info about WE points came into existence on March 1, 2012. We didn't ask for it. It was management's decision, may I humbly ask you, when you will execute this much publicized programme...or will it remain in papers only?
