From galleries to high profile wallpaper design: Innovative female artist Katie Bright
Prolific British artist Katie Bright has been well known in the gallery circuit for years, and her work as an organizer of art-centric galas and events has garnered her considerable attention around the globe. Now, she's once again expanded into a new market and established herself as a major figure in the world of high-end design.

First and foremost, Bright is an artist. Her ability to create mesmerising visual displays is unparalleled. She has a natural sense of aesthetics, but she does far more than make things of beauty; she has a genuine flair for imbuing her works with layers upon layers of rich symbolism and subtle motifs.

Bright has a long-time fascination with the connection between mythology, fantasy and the real world. Her art often explores the deeper meaning of the fairy tales most children grow up hearing and watching; she frequently examines classic fables and extracts their morals and messages, then juxtaposes them against a backdrop of modern society.

That immense level of skill and attention to detail is the key to Bright's enormous success as an artist and is what has made her such a sought after asset among high-end clients. Most recently, she has been hard at work creating fantastically intricate and stunning mural-like designs for upscale businesses in both Oregon and Southern California.

In 2015, she was commissioned by Ellen Picataggio to create a unique wallpaper for Surftides Lincoln City Hotel in Oregon. Picataggio, the hotel's owner, chose Bright because of her experience and familiarity with fine art and design, but also because of her reputation for blending storytelling and metaphor into her gorgeous works of art.

As the name suggests, Surftides Hotel is located adjacent to the beach in beautiful coastal Oregon. Bright chose to write an entirely original fable on which to base her wallpaper design. The story she created was inspired by the words of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hanh, who said that true change does not begin on the surface but must come from within.

Because of the seaside atmosphere and her fascination with mythology, Bright's story tells of the shapeshifting goddess Atargatis. Atargatis first takes the form of a mermaid, then a bird, but retains features of all these forms. This eventually leads to her downfall, as she has taken on so many forms that she is no longer at home anywhere.

The impact of the story is matched only by that of the wallpaper she created. It is a rare and innovative concept to create a decorative wallpaper that tells a visual story based on an accompanying written tale. The gorgeous display is rich in both color and symbolism; the flora and fauna beautifully and seamlessly portray the original fable. The moral, which is conveyed masterfully, is that for a person to truly change they must do so in their hearts.

Hugely impressed with the Surftides Hotel design, Picataggio again commissioned Bright for another wallpaper project - this time at Picataggio's Tart Restaurant in Los Angeles. Located on Fairfax right across from The Grove, the famous upscale shopping hub between Melrose and Beverly Hills, Tart Restaurant is a chic eatery serving American food in the heart of L.A.'s classiest retail district.

Bright was tasked with creating two distinctly different designs this time, one aimed at women and the other toward men. Again she drew on her expertise and roots in the realm of fairy tales. For the women's design, she drew inspiration from two of her favorite stories, with a dark twist.

For the men's design, she chose a more masculine approach. Though the wolf motif remains prevalent, the wallpaper she created was noticeably darker in tone and carries with it strong sexual and virile undertones.

With her latest break into high-end design, Bright has established herself as a powerful creative force. She is able to cross lines between every application of art with ease and precision, and her messages will no doubt continue to capture an ever-growing number eyes and imaginations as she continues to expand and leave her mark on the international art world.
