Gain for Mamata and Congress says the Exit Polls
Exit Polls carried out by different TV news channels indicate big victory for Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal polls, Congress to rule Assam again and a close fight in southern states.
AS THE final phase of polling concluded in West Bengal on Tuesday, almost all TV news channels came out with their ‘Exit poll’ specials and if their predictions are to be believed then it will be Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) along with the Indian National Congress that will make the next government in West Bengal. They are sweeping the polls and are predicted to get some 222-240 seats out of the 294 assembly seats that went to the polls in West Bengal.

This means the magic of Mamata worked in the elections and the Left front which ruled the state for almost seven consecutive terms i.e. around 35 years will sit in the opposition for the first time. This is something not going down the throats of the Left leaders who were asking the media persons to wait till Friday when the results will be announced finally. The Left party is expected to get some 70 seats as per the Exit polls.

The Congress is also gaining in Assam where the next government is likey to be formed by the Congress as per the data coming out in the Exit polls. The Congress is expected to get 70 plus seats in the 126 Assam assembly seats followed by Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) at around 20 seats, the BJP will also gain some 8 to 15 seats.

However, there will be a close fight in Tamil Nadu where the Exit polls have predicted a close fight between the ruling DMK and its allies with the AIADMK and their allies. The ruling DMK plus would get around 102-114 seats as per the survey conducted by the CNN-IBN where as STAR says DMK will get around 124 seats, News 24 has predicted around 65-104 seats for the DMK whereas the AIDMK and alliance will get 120-132 seats (CNN-IBN), 110 (STAR) 135-144 (News 24). So the fight will be quite close in Tamil Nadu on all 234 seats.

In Kerala, the Exit poll for 140 seats show nearly a close battle between the ruling CPI led LDF and the opposition UDF which will bag around 70 seats as per the survey. The CNN-IBN survey predicts the UDF getting some 63-71 seats for UDF while LDF will get some 69-77 seats; STAR survey though puts the UDF at 88 seats while the LDF is given some 49 seats in the Exit polls. News 24 has also predicted victory for the UDF at 93-102 seats and LDF getting merely 44-53 seats.

These Exit polls have made one thing clear that despite issues of corruption, scams and price rise, the Congress is gaining its lost political ground especially in West Bengal. They are returning to power in Assam as well. Hopefully their alliance with the DMK in Tamil Nadu returns to power there too. The other good news that has emerged out in this Exit poll is for the BJP as the party can open its account in West Bengal.
The BJP is predicted to get some 2-5 seats in West Bengal, and if the results go this way, it will be a great moment to cheer for the BJP leaders who worked really very hard this time in West Bengal. T

This would also give a message to the nation that people in West Bengal have accepted the party’s ideology and acknowledged that BJP is no more an “untouchable” and it's acceptance will only help the BJP politically in times to come in the state of West Bengal.
