Gambhir set the match for India, Dhoni finished it
India won its match against Australia in the ongoing ODI tri series at Adelaide. Gautam Gambhir played a responsible innings, for which he was awarded the Man of the Match award. But it was Dhoni who turned out to be the hero in the end with his cool batting display.

FINALLY, THE Indian players were smiling as India put up a good display when they played against Australia in the tri series. They defeated the Australians in a close encounter with the game stretching till the final over, where they reached the target of 270 runs in 49.4 overs. Gautam Gambir was adjudged the Man of the Match for his well compiled 92 runs, which brought Indians closer to victory.

It was Dhoni who helped India cross the finish line. When the final over was left to be bowled, it was the Australians who were in the driving seat. India required 13 runs from the last over, with MS being the main man for India. Until then, he had not hit a single ball to the fence. But he came up with a huge six when it meant the most, in the final over. It tilted the match in India’s favour. The Times of India has reported that it was a 112-metre hit and by far the biggest six in Dhoni’s career.

Earlier during the day, Indian bowlers had put up a disciplined effort with the ball. The pacers were up to the task with Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar taking two wickets each. Zaheer took one wicket. Apart from the bowlers the young guns were very energetic on the field diving around saving few runs in the process. The Aussies batsmen looked good, with David Hussey and P Forrest both scoring above 60 runs.

The Indian openers when they walked into bat needed to give a good start so as to relieve pressure from the middle order. They managed to put up an opening stand of 52 runs before Sehwag fell for 20 runs. It was another disappointing score for Sehwag. But it was his partner, Gambhir, along with Kohli and Sharma, who were up for the task. It was a tensed dressing room, when the last few overs of the game were bowled, as India seemed to be losing yet another game. But captain cool Dhoni had some other plans to bring the Aussies down. MS Dhoni won the match for India in a cool manner.

With this victory India has registered two back to back victories in the ODI series, something that was unimaginable in the ongoing tour. It is time for India to play along with the same confidence and vigour for the rest of the matches too.
