Gannanadh Patro shifted from Koraput to Chouduar Jail
Urging the government to release Gannanadh Patro, given his deteriorating health, the two-member committee has maintained that the step would speak high of the administration.

THE TWO-member committee (Prof. Radha Mohan the 1st information commissioner of Odisha and K. Sudhakar Patnaik, senior Journalist) appointed by the government to review the cases of tribals confined in jails, has emphasized that among other things, infirm women and aged prisoners should be released on priority and members specifically mentioned the case of Gananadh Patro who is the advisor of Chasi Mulia Adibasi Sangh, Narayanpatna (CMAS).

In a letter, the members urged the government to release Gannanadh Patro, keeping in view his age and various debilitating diseases he was suffering from. Earlier few months back in a separate meeting with the Home Secretary, the two members had drawn his attention to the case of Sri Patro and he promised action if the committee put a request letter for the release of Gannanadh Patro. That the committee did, but nothing happened and surprisingly the government was totally non-communicative for which the members of the committee were greatly dismayed, they mentioned in the letter.
However once again in view of his present state of health, purely from a humanitarian point of view, Sri Gannanadh Patro should be released forthwith with out any pussyfooting.  It will be a good gesture on the part of the government.
However immediately after 48 hours from the receipt of the mail, the Chief Secretary of Odisha Mr. Bijay Kumar Pattnaik Friday acknowledged receipt of a letter (Mail), Pattnaik told media that he would apprise the Chief Minister of the facts when he comes from abroad.  Gannanadh Patro who was in Koraput jail has been shifted to Chouduar jail on 19th May, 2012 after his health deteriorated.
