To get to Super 30, students have to appear for an entrance test and once through, they get 10 months free Anand's guidance. This coaching centre enables the underprivileged to nurture and realise their IIT dreams.
BIHAR MAY call rearward and amateurish state by some people. But it has some very different coaching centre (Super 30) for Indian Institute of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE), and every second student who wants to be an engineer has a dream to study in this center. What is making it different? The world well-known Time Magazine selected it in the list of ‘The Best of Asia 2010’.
One different thing is that this coaching center is free and helps socially and economically backwards IIT aspirants to crack the toughest examinations. The institute was started by Anand Kumar, the mathematics guru along with Bihar's IPS official Abhayanand who is now additional director-general of police in 2002, in Patna. But two years ago, Abhayanand dissociated himself from the institute.
Anand Kumar who still teaches mathematics in Super 30 and gives methodical coaching, each year he select 30 talented students from poor backgrounds and pass on free coaching and lodging facilities to them. Since 2002, his programme attributed with producing 212 students successful in IIT-JEE. From year 2008, his coaching center Super 30 managed to earn 100 per cent result. This feat repeated in 2009, this year too and does a hat trick.
From 2003 to 2006, students studied in a tin shed near Anand Kumar’s house. Later, he shifted them at his school where he coaches around 5,000 students for IIT and other entrance examination. All students committed themselves to a year of 16-hour study each day, after passing a competitive test to get into the centre. Kumar provide full scholarships, while he himself missed a chance to study at Cambridge due to short of money.
To get to Super 30, students have to appear for an entrance test and once through, they get 10 months free Anand’s guidance. This coaching centre enables the underprivileged to nurture and realise their IIT dreams. The coaching centre has even won the notice of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who hear Kumar’s plan to launch a national programme for talented rural children. The country where students fight back for basic education, Super 30 coaching centre is an example of civilisation.
