General Category employees to boycott work on August 22
Thousands of government employees have decided that they will boycott office work on August 22 if the government went ahead with tabling of the controversial bill, which will allow the government to continue to have quota in promotions.

THOUSANDS OF employees joined the protest rally on August 21 at Jantar Mantar to protest the reservation in promotions in state services under the banner of Sarvajan Hitaye Sarnkshan Samity. The general category employees from Uttar Pardesh, Uttrakhand, Kranatka Rajasthan and Punjab joined the rally. The rally was aimed against a legislation being brought by the Centre that is tipped to amend the constitution in favor of continuing quota in promotions which has been questioned by the Apex court.

The rally was addressed by Chairman SHSS Shaliender Dubey, A A Farooqui and Om Parkash Pandey from uttarPardesh, Kamlesh Mishra and S K Pandey of Uttrakhand, K M Nagraj and V S Bidri from Karnatka Prashar Narain Sharma & R S Choker from Rajasthan, Bhanu Parkash of Andhra Pardesh and VK Gupta of Punjab.

Ram Goal Yadav of Samajwadi Party addressed the gathering. He assured that his party will oppose the proposed bill for reservation in promotions. Samajwadi Party is not against reservation but against reservation in promotions. This will derail the progress of country and may put the country once again pitting one community against other.

The meeting unanimously passed a resolution that all employees will boycott work on August 22 if the proposed bill is tabled in Parliament. The employees will protest at all district headquarters on August 22.

Various speakers said that the Government should stop the politics of votes. The merit must prevail in the services of country. The Government should refrain from poisoning the society. If Government goes ahead with its policy of divide and rule nationwide agitation will be lodged.

What was different this time though was that the rally in Delhi evolved from being a protest by a section of disgruntled employees to a movement with a broader base involving social organisations, business groups and caste units who extended their support to the cause.
