Girls complain of eve teasing in North Campus
With the commencement of the admission procedure for undergraduate courses in Delhi, the girl students are having a torrid time. Girls in North Campus complain of lewd gestures and vulgar comments by people in broad daylight.

I WENT to the North Campus today (June 03) to examine the admission procedure and my interaction with some of the female students revealed some shocking tales.

June 1 was the first day of the admission procedure at the colleges in the North Campus. The incidents of eve teasing once again came to the fore. These incidents have been coming to light for the last so many years, especially during the admissions.

Girls complain of lewd gestures and vulgar comments by people in broad daylight. Eve teasing, hooliganism and pick-pocketing are a common scenario here. The girls pointed out that the boys continued to harass them without any fear of the consequences because the police took their own sweet time to take action or register complaints. Now the area in the North Campus is notorious for being unsafe. “Boys just walk off touching here and there. And their comments are so coarse. It is so disgusting and irritating and people are mute spectators,” said a girl, who came there for admission. Because of heavy crowd of new students during this time, boys and middle-aged men take advantage and try to molest girls.

According to girls, no action is taken against the cases of molestation and eve teasing on the campus. The huge number of police personnel on duty couldn’t give respite to the complaints of the girl students and the eve teasing continues.

“We feel there should be more lady police inside the university campus to whom we can approach without any hesitation in the time of trouble” said one of the student.
